Davis Keillor-Dunn admits it felt ‘strange’ to be on the end of a frustrated Darrell Clarke half-time team talk on Saturday after a good run.

But the striker says the head coach was right to react that way after a poor first half in a 1-0 loss to Wigan Athletic.

Keillor-Dunn told the Chronicle: “It felt a little bit strange because everything had been clicking in the last few weeks. But players have off days. Supporters get frustrated as well. We will stick together, do the basics and keep going.”

He added: “We are disheartened and gutted that we didn’t perform anywhere near where we can be. Luckily we have a game on Tuesday to put it right. We know what we’ve done wrong and we just need to pick our heads up.

“Wigan frustrated us, got a goal and defended it well. They did a job on us.

“The gaffer said at half-time we looked lethargic and slow. He was spot on. We take all the responsibility. The boys were saying before the staff came in we need to be a lot better.”

Barnsley tried to play out from the back from struggled, with Keillor-Dunn at a loss as to why.

“I wish I could give you an answer. In the past weeks it’s been working really well. I can’t work out how it didn’t work in this game. You take your medicine, improve and go again.”

Was the wet weather a factor?

“Not really. It was the same for both teams. It might affect people differently but it definitely didn’t affect me. You just have to roll your sleeves up, chase the ball and work hard. It might not be pretty. We went longer and had some joy in the second half but it wasn’t to be.”

Keillor-Dunn has four goals for the season but none in his last three games. He said: “I am a little bit frustrated with a couple of chances missed in the past couple of games. They will drop for me, I know that as a fact.”
