A LOCAL community church has unveiled two new art projects as the wider town continues to embrace new artistic ventures.
Goldthorpe Pentecostal Community Church is the latest establishment in the village to receive a makeover, after shop shutters in the town were decorated and a new gateway showpiece was added to the area’s new roundabout.
Jayde Marie Bell - who’s known professionally as Eye Violet and was involved in the previous work on shutters - designed a mural while another piece involved ceramic coasters painted by locals to spell the word ‘hope’.
The two pieces are in the church’s car park and were supported by Pride of Place funding.
“We wanted to bring colour and vibrancy to our area and to remind residents that with God, there is always hope,” said church pastor, Julie Turner.
“Jayde has been working with the Dearne Community Arts’ Festival in Goldthorpe on painting shop shutters and will soon be working on a mural at the Phoenix Park underpass, so there is a real sense of continuity in the work she has been doing locally.
“We love the painting which reminds us of the area’s heritage, but which also points forward to the hope that there is renewal to be found in nature, as the flowers and butterflies indicate.”
