EIGHT Barnsley schools battled it out or a spot in the northern finals of the EFL Utilita Cup last week.
The competition, which took place on the Oakwell training pitches, creates one of the country’s largest national football events which culminate in a final at Wembley Stadium in front of thousands of fans before a major national final, as schoolchildren live out their dream.
In the run up to these finals, EFL clubs and their club community organisation’s deliver local and regional stages of the competitions.
The Barnsley final took place last Thursday, with Springvale Primary School coming out on top.
A spokesperson for the Barnsley FC Community Trust said: “Eight schools battled it out for a spot in the northern finals, with Barnsley Football Club players Donovan Pines and Jon Russell, along with head coach Darrell Clarke, making special appearances.
“After a thrilling final and a nail-biting penalty shootout, Springvale emerged victorious.
“A huge congratulations to all the teams who took part - your hard work and passion shone through.”
