BARNSLEY’S interim head coach Conor Hourihane has provided an update on the injury woes at Oakwell ahead of Saturday’s game at Mansfield.

The Reds sacked Darrell Clarke yesterday, with Hourihane handed the head coach role until the end of the season.

He will be assisted by Jon Stead and Martin Devaney alongside Tom Harban, who will step up from the under 21s setup.

In recent weeks there has been somewhat of an injury crisis at Oakwell, with numerous first team players unable to play.

The Reds have been without Joe Gauci, Barry Cotter, Mael de Gevigney - though he is back this weekend - Josh Earl, Donovan Pines, Georgie Gent, Adam Phillips, Jonathan Lewis and Fabio Jalo.

All of those players would stake a claim for a place in the starting 11.

Hourihane has given an update on both Phillips and Earl ahead of this weekend’s clash.

He told the Chronicle: “Phillo will be ok luckily.

“He’s a very good footballer and he’s going to be a big part of the next games moving forward.

“He’ll be fine.

“Josh Earl is going to be out for a little bit moving forward.

“That’s disappointing because obviously he’s a very good player for the club and for the team.

“Other than that we’re kind of good to go.”
