JORDAN Gray has gone from being a doorman on Wellington Street in the town centre to ‘wrestling with Conor Benn’ - but the towering Shafton man says he’s not intimidated by some of the biggest names in the boxing scene.
The 31-year-old got a job for Shadow Security when he was just 18 years old and became head doorman at the company, before moving to the prison service.
Jordan, who had ‘looked after’ Tyson Fury when he was in Sheffield a number of years ago, met the Gypsy King while on holiday in Tenerife and his security Brendan Lyons - who runs Lyons Den Security - and ultimately started looking after his brother Tommy.
He’s now a fully-fledged security guard and has become a mainstay in the boxing industry, travelling to Saudi Arabia for big fights including Anthony Joshua and Dmitry Bivol.
Most recently he’s been in between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn at their pre-fight press conferences in Manchester and London.
Camera footage at a recent press day showed Benn tell Jordan to ‘get off me’ - but Jordan says he’s not intimated by it.
He added: “It’s been my dream job ever since I was a child.
“I’ve always wanted to be involved with the A-listers and now I am.
“I’ve been to some of the biggest shows.
“It was crazy (the Benn and Eubank press conference).
“I’ve gone from Wellington Street to wrestling with Conor Benn.
“But I never get intimidated.
“I’ve had arguments with Derek Chisora and some of the Sheikhs but I’ve got a job to do.”
