PENISTONE Church ended a four-game losing run with a 3-1 home win over Barton Town on Wednesday.

Nathan Keightley put them in front just before half-time and a Barton player was sent off.

Kieran Ryan doubled the lead on 85 minutes.

Barton replied but Keightley got another at the end.

Penistone moved up two places to second, with 28 from 16 games – and are only off top on goal difference.

But they have played the most games in the division, three more than the clubs directly below them.

Coach John Whitehead said: “It was well-deserved and overdue.

“It’s nice to get the monkey off our back.

“It was important we remained determined in what we were trying to do.”
