A CRICKET-mad father got to see his dreams come true as his daughter joined him on the field.

Paul Wroe has been playing with Higham Cricket Club most of his life, joining the junior set-up aged nine.

Now though, the 41-year-old dad is getting to pass on the torch to his daughter Savannah Cannon, who has been rising through the club herself.

Just two weeks back, the father-daughter duo got to play side-by-side as 14-year-old Savannah made her debut for the men’s team at an adult development match held at the ground.

They weren’t the only two to get involved, as 13-year-old Georgie Vickers and her dad Steve also played in the same game together, with Georgie taking three wickets in a previous women’s game.

Paul told the Chronicle: “Savannah’s been playing in the junior side for a few years now.

“Recently some of our younger juniors have been moving up to play with the development side, so she’s been nagging me to try and get herself into a game.

“Then they asked if I could play with her.

“I coach with the junior sides and she’s been involved with that.

“Cricket’s not really been seen as a girls’ sport in the past, but that’s definitely changing now, we’ve got lots of girls getting involved.

“It’s great to see Savannah follow in my footsteps now.”
