BARNSLEY Hospital’s portering team has been named the best in the country at a recent awards ceremony.

They were named the Portering Team of the Year at the National MyPorter Awards 2025.

The team comprises more than 70 ‘dedicated’ individuals, and hospital bosses say that throughout the last year their efforts have helped streamline patient movement.

A spokesperson for the hospital said: “A key factor in their success has been their proactive approach to innovation, including advancements in medical equipment transportation, radiology support, and operating team cooperation.

“Their ability to adapt and embrace new technologies has played a crucial role in helping reduce the elective backlog, ensuring patients receive timely care.

“Beyond their operational excellence, the team has prioritised collaboration with clinical teams, strengthening relationships with doctors, matrons, and lead nurses.

“By engaging and training clinical staff to utilise the MyPorter system, they have improved efficiency and patient experience hospital-wide.

“Despite the challenges posed by ongoing hospital expansion projects, the team has demonstrated remarkable resilience, navigating alternate routes to ensure patients reach their appointments on time.

“Barnsley Hospital’s portering team has long been a shining example of dedication and professionalism.

“This award is a testament to their hard work, adaptability, and commitment to patient-centered care - a well-deserved recognition for an exceptional team.”
