Some Barnsley FC related stories coming out of the weekend.

CLARKE: EVERY GAME IS PROBABLY A CUP FINAL

Darrell Clarke believes his Barnsley side are at the ‘back end’ of the League One promotion mix after three successive wins.

The Reds followed up victories at Rotherham and Northampton with a 4-3 home success over Lincoln City on Saturday. They remained tenth but the gap which was ten points to sixth is now four, ahead of a trip to sixth-placed Charlton Athletic tomorrow.

Clarke told the Chronicle: “It’s pleasing but we have to continue it. We slipped behind the race a little bit by not winning in six games but the response has been brilliant. The focus always has to be on the next game and it’s a great one at Charlton.

“We have 12 games left, a massive 36 points to play for. It’s the last quarter of the season, the business end, and we’re in the pack chasing down the top six.

“Every game is probably a cup final. There are quite a few teams in the mix and we’ve put ourselves on the back end of that with nine points out of nine.”

MCCANN AND BLAND ANNOUNCED AS RECALLED

Barnsley are thought to have recalled young pair Jonathan Bland and Bayley McCann from their loan spell at Peterborough Sports.

The teenagers were regulars for Luke Steele’s National League North side, with midfielder Bland playing 24 times and left wing-back McCann 20 while scoring twice.

Bland was recalled on Friday and was on the bench for Barnsley on Saturday while the non-league club announced McCann had also been recalled on Monday. The Reds’ left wing-back Georgie Gent picked up an injury at the weekend.

BARNSLEY WAITING TO HEAR ON INTERNATIONAL CALL-UPS

Barnsley are waiting to hear whether any of their players will be called up for international duty later this month.

The Reds would be able to postpone their game at home to bottom club Cambridge United on March 22 if three of their first team players receive call-ups for their countries. But it is unlikely now that goalkeeper Joe Gauci – who is a regular in Australia squads – is set to miss several weeks due to a hip injury picked up last week in the win at Rotherham United.

Barnsley also have two Jamaica internationals in Jon Russell and Dexter Lembikisa but, if it is only them called up, then they will miss the Cambridge game which will still go ahead on the same date.

There are no other fit Barnsley first team players who have been involved in their national team set-ups recently.

Cambridge could also call the game off, as they did in the first international break of the season due to three call-ups. But two of their internationals Vicente Reyes and Connor O'Riordan were on loan and returned to their parent clubs in January.

WOMEN LOSE AT LEADERS

BARNSLEY FC women lost 3-0 at National League Division One North leaders Cheadle Town Stingers.

That left them seventh in the English fourth tier, with 20 points from 18 of their 22 planned games. They are still seven points and four places clear of the two-team relegation zone ahead of a trip to third-placed Chorley on Sunday.

U18S LOSE, U21S PLAY TOMORROW

Barnsley under 21s are due to host Coventry City on Tuesday at 2pm.

Barnsley under 18s lost 1-0 at home to Hull City.

They are due to visit Coventry on Saturday.
