GOLFERS have been told to put a date in their diary for a club’s first ever charity day in aid of Barnsley Hospital.

Wortley Golf Club promised friendly competition, prizes and the chance to make a real difference in the lives of local hospital patients awaits participants on June 4.

Organisers are currently finalising various offers and special challenges for the day, including the chance to achieve a hole-in-one.

The event is being organised by Geoffrey Berry alongside Darren Gamble, the club’s secretary.

Funds raised will go to Barnsley Hospital Charity, supporting vital patient care and services within the hospital.

Geoffrey said: “The members of Wortley Golf Club are delighted to support the hospital by hosting this event.

“Together with our loved ones, we have benefited from the treatment, care and compassion provided at the trust for many years and we feel privileged to be able to contribute in this small way.”

Generous donations from supporters have enabled Barnsley Hospital Charity to purchase things such as extra sensory toys for children with learning difficulties, new equipment for the neonatal unit, specialist training in nipple tattooing for women who have undergone breast surgery following breast cancer and specialist equipment that cannot be provided by NHS expenditure.

Jane Mills, from the charity, added: “There are fantastic opportunities for businesses and individuals to get involved through sponsorship packages and team entries.

“Whether you’re an avid golfer or just keen to support a great cause, this event promises to be a highlight of the golfing calendar.

“Join us for a day of golf, prizes and giving back.”
