THE Montagu Cup returned to the Westville for the first time in seven years following a nerve jangling 2-1 win over AFP Pewter Pot.

The West Melton side added the historic trophy to the Mexborough Sunday League title with the narrow victory in front of 1,362 on Easter Monday at Mexborough.

Ville took the lead after half an hour when Josh Moore beat the offside trap and rounded the goalkeeper before squeezing the ball in.

Moore got his second when he was found by a stunning cross from Atley Jackson and he nodded in.

A late deflected header got the Rotherham side back into it and an offside flag in added on time denied AFP a leveller.

Adam Stead, a winner of the Montagu Cup with Westville back in 2018, was in the dugout and is believed to be among a select club of winners as both a player and manager.
