A PETITION to improve an area of Barnsley dubbed ‘no man’s land’ has been successful much to the delight of local councillors.
Residents living around the Dillington Terrace area say they have been forgotten about in recent years with the area becoming a fly-tipping haven filled with rubbish and vermin.
The area began to fall into disrepair following the liquidation of the firm which built the Highstone View estate.
A petition, which garnered a total of 195 signatures, has been presented to cabinet and it has been confirmed that the land is now set to be cleared.
Coun Phil Wright, who has helped lead the petition, told the Chronicle: “I know that someone is looking into how much it will cost to clear the site enough to be able to look at the state of the walls, as well as make an assessment of its recent movement of safety.
“So after many years we, the Lib Dem councillors, have managed to provoke some reaction from the council.
“Hopefully this will lead to improvements for the long-suffering residents who have had to live and look at this neglected land.”
