BARNSLEY man Joe Ferguson became British indoor champion over 200m this week and is now targeting a year of international success.

The 24-year-old from Darton won the British Indoor Championships in Birmingham with an indoor personal best of 20.93.

It is his first national title, having won silver and bronze previously both indoors and outdoors while also representing Great Britain at the 2022 World Championships.

After two injury-plagued years, he is now training under Olympian Richard Kilty and hoping to make this year’s World Championships in Tokyo in September.

Joe told the Chronicle: “I’ve had a great block of training this winter, and I’m very happy to produce a performance that reflects how I’m feeling.

“I’m in the shape of my life and, after winning two bronzes and two silvers at the British champs, it’s an amazing feeling to finally win a title.

“I’m feeling refreshed and ready to produce the best results of my life and push towards the World Championships.”
