BARNSLEY club runners won medals in the British Masters Indoor Championships at the EIS in Sheffield.

Barnsley AC’s Rod Scholes took gold over 800m for the over80 men’s category. His time was 3-41-67.

Husband and wife John and Dawn Broom, from Penistone Footpath Runners, also came away with medals.

Dawn earned bronze in the British Masters over60 3,000 metres and gold in the Yorkshire Veterans’ Championships over the same distance.

John picked up gold in the Yorkshire Veterans’ Championships over 3,000 metres.

At Meltham AC’s Tough 10k which includes more than 600 feet of elevation, Barnsley AC’s Vicky Shaw finished as second woman in a time of 42-18.

On her first running of the course, Gemma Thickett was eighth woman in 46-25.

Mark Wood’s time was 47-49.

First woman back for Penistone was Lesley Parker in a time of 49-21.

She was second in the women’s over50 age category.

First back overall for the Penistone club was George Parr with a top ten finish in eighth place.

George completed the undulating course in a time of 38-20.

There were age category wins for Barbara Haigh (over75 women) and Keith Gordon (over75 men).

Penistone’s James Mumford made the trip over the Pennines to compete in the Stockport Daffodil 10k.

He dipped under 38 minutes, recording a time of 37-59 which gave him 25th place in a field of more than 1,000 runners.

Barnsley AC’s Naomi Drakeford set another PB, this time for ten miles at the Ferriby 10 in Skidby, part of the Yorkshire Wolds.

In a race of two halves with the first being particularly hilly and the latter generally downhill, Naomi finished as second woman in 58-43, just 31 seconds behind the winner.

This was also the first time she had broken an hour for ten miles.
