BARNSLEY Town are due to replay a cup game next week after winning the initial match in extra-time when the referee should have allegedly sent it straight to penalties.
Town beat Jubilee Sports in the League Cup in August, winning 2-1 during the added period.
But the match, under league rules, should have gone straight to a shoot-out so it has been ordered by the league to be replayed on Tuesday at Athersley Rec.
Town manager Robbie Gainey said: “We are annoyed as we told the ref before the game it was straight to pens and he told both teams before kick off it was extra-time.
“Tuesday night under floodlights will be a very feisty game.
“If I was Jubilee, I’d be embarrassed to turn up but we knocked them out last year and already this year so they will want revenge.”
Town are also facing a battle to complete the season as their original ground – Rabbit Ings in Royston, has been deemed not up to standard by the league.
Gainey said: “We are homeless at the moment.
“Our next home game is at Houghton Main on October 19.
“Thank you to Houghton Main for allowing us to use their pitch.
“But after that we need a pitch to play from. We only have six home league games plus any cup runs so, any teams willing to ground share, please contact us.”
Barnsley Town won 8-4 at North Gawber in a Division One derby on Saturday.
Danny Taylor scored a hat-trick for Town with Connor Asquith adding two while Mitch Haigh, Sam Metcalfe and Liam Holderness also netted.
The Gawber scorers were Scott Chipchase, who netted twice, Scott Chambers and Lewis Goddard.
After eight games, newly-promoted Town are second with 19 points and Gawber, who were relegated last season, tenth with six. Gainey said: “It was one for the neutrals to enjoy with some spectacular goals but a game for both defences to forget about.
“We like to play attacking football but conceding four is not acceptable if we are wanting to achieve our goals this season. We have addressed the game between us.
“Our target is back to back promotions to get to the Premier Division.
“Sitting second in the league with a game in hand, we aim to achieve promotion by Christmas.
“Providing no games are called off, we will have played 17 of the 24 games in the league and we feel we can achieve enough points to secure a top three spot.
“Our goal is the title but two promotions since the club was established is our main objective.
“We remain in all cup competitions and feel we have a chance of cup glory this season. We were disappointed with two semi-final losses last season but we have improved as a squad and we are strong enough to hopefully win the League Cup or Sheffield Cup or even both which would be an unbelievable achievement for a new side playing from Division One in the County Senior League.”
