BARNSLEY FC Community Trust has been named the Charity of the Year at the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber Awards.

The trust are the charitable arm of Barnsley Football Club and work tirelessly to deliver charitable and community activities across all areas of the borough.

Last season, the trust delivered more than £7.77m in social value - with bosses saying it demonstrates their commitment to creating a stronger, healthier and more inclusive community.

The trust received the award in part for their work in mental health, particularly its Team Talk programme.

The scheme provides men in the community with a safe, informal space to connect, share experiences, and build coping strategies together.

Guided by specially trained coaches, participants are encouraged to engage at their own pace, offering peer support and the chance to form meaningful connections.

The trust also received a £3,000 cheque which will go towards supporting men with mental health challenges.

Chief executive Kieron Campbell told the Chronicle: “Winning this award is an incredible honour and a true reflection of the hard work and dedication of our team and the community we support.

“This recognition empowers us to continue making a real difference in people’s lives.”

Chair of trustees, Dave Watson, added: “This award is a great achievement and recognition of the impactful work the charity is undertaking across several key areas in our local community.”

Barnsley North MP, Dan Jarvis, added: “Massive congratulations to all at Barnsley FC Community Trust as they were named Charity of the Year at the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce Business Awards last week.

“Kieron, Dave and the whole team of staff and volunteers down at the trust do so much phenomenal work across our town, and I am delighted they have been recognised.”
