BARNSLEY Women’s FC won 5-2 at second-bottom Worcester on Sunday in National League Division One Midlands.

The game was played at the 12,000-seater Sixways Stadium, the former home of rugby union club Worcester Warriors.

Barnsley raced into a 4-0 lead thanks to goals by Jodie Snelson, twice, Laura Bartup and Eve Marshall on her birthday.

The hosts pulled two back but Olivia Richardson netted Barnsley’s fifth in injury-time.

They have 13 points from ten games so far and are seventh.

They are now due to host Lincoln United who are also mid-table.

Manager Craige Richardson said: “We have been struggling with suspensions and injuries for a few weeks.

“It was nice to turn up with a full squad and feel confident.

“We had a shaky first five minutes but, after that, I could never see us losing.

“The strikers were clinical but everyone applied themselves.

“They scored a worldie free-kick for 4-2 and we had a bit of a wobble and we needed the fifth goal.

“We have a good run of games where we should be quietly confident.

“We won’t underestimate anybody. We will prepare for Lincoln now.”

Meanwhile, Wombwell Town won 4-2 at Worksop Town in Division Four of the Sheffield and Hallamshire League.

There were two goals each for Rachel Norsworthy and Lucy Tindle.

Town are second with 21 points from ten games but nine points behind runaway leaders Wickersley.

Mind Over Matter lost 6-1 at home to Maltby in Division Three.

They are now fourth after back-to-back defeats.

Wath Stars won 2-1 at Chesterfield under 23s.

Brooke Tully scored both for Wath who are third, five points off top with a game in hand.
