Darrell Clarke is confident he has the midfield options in his squad to replace the suspended Luca Connell in Barnsley’s next league game.
The Reds captain picked up his fifth booking of the season late on in the 2-0 win over Rotherham United on Friday, so will sit out the trip to Cambridge United on Saturday.
Tottenham loanee Matty Craig came on for Connell in injury-time and could start at Cambridge.
With Vimal Yoganathan away with Wales under 19s, Kelechi Nwakali and Josh Benson are the other midfield options.
Head coach Darrell Clarke said: “That’s why we have a squad of players. Luca is a top player but I am sure there are players who can come in and do a good job.”
Loan goalkeeper Gaga Slonina has damaged a ligament in his finger.
Clarke said: “He’s out four to six weeks. Unfortunately he did it in the warm-up the other week. The good news is he doesn’t need operating on. We will link up with Chelsea to try to get him back as quick as possible.”
