A CHARITY which was set up to support residents across the borough will close its town centre hub tomorrow - and they’re currently on the hunt for a new site.

Peter Robertshaw-Corbett set up the foundation H.O.P.E (Helping Others Positively Engage) In Community was founded as a community group in 2017.

It became a charity in 2020, a month before lockdown, and subsequently opened its community hub in the town centre in 2021.

However, Peter was told that they will no longer be able to use the site on Peel Square as a new tenant has been found.

Peter told the Chronicle: “Unfortunately we’ve been on a 28-day rolling contract and we’ve been told that a new tenant has been found and they will be moving in.

“We’ve been here since 2022 and it’s used to provide support to people in Barnsley and raise money for the charity as well.

“We held our celebration for our seventh birthday on September 17.”

The charity are currently hosting a closing down sale and Peter is hoping to find another site in the near future.

“We’ve had the pleasure of serving the Barnsley community for the past seven years, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported us,” he added..

“We’re honoured to be part of this community and are here for anyone in need.

“If you require assistance or would like to get involved, please reach out.”
