Barnsley are holding out for their valuation of Callum Styles amid ‘a lot of interest’ in the Hungary international, says Darrell Clarke.
The 24-year-old played in the last two pre-season games but was not involved in the league opener against Mansfield on Friday.
West Bromwich Albion are one of several Championship clubs thought to be interested.
Barnsley head coach Clarke told the Chronicle: “Callum is having a lot of interest and a few clubs are coming in for him. He didn’t feel in the right frame of mind. I would rather play players whose mindset is right. He hasn’t been a problem for me.”
There is a release clause in Styles’ contract, which has a year to run, believed to be about £2million. It is not clear whether the Reds would accept less than that.
Clarke added: “If it’s not right for the club he won’t be going anywhere. He will leave if the club get the figure they want and expect. Knowing the owners and board, that won’t be moving.”
