Barnsley RUFC's men suffered an eighth straight defeat as they lost 28-20 at home to mid-table Castleford.

The second-bottom Shaw Laners have six points from ten games and are ten points adrift in the bottom two in Yorkshire Division Three.

They now have a two-week break before visiting title-chasing Old Otliensians on November 30.

Barnsley Ladies also had a bad weekend, losing 26-7 at bottom club Bishop Auckland in Championship One North.

The Shaw Laners are eighth in the ten-team English second tier, nine points clear of the bottom two.

They have won two and lost five of their seven games. They now host second-placed Cheltenham Tigers on Sunday.

Wath lost 46-18 at high-flying Keighley in Yorkshire Division One. There were tries for Arran Tasker, David Laycock and Sean Hopper with Jack Whitlam kicking one penalty.

Wath are now seventh with 24 points from ten games.

They are due to host fellow mid-table side Beverley on Saturday.

Dearne Valley stayed top of Yorkshire Division Four with a 32-3 win at Stocksbridge.

Sam Holt scored a hat-trick with Jacob Mangham and Steve Mason also touching down.

Steve Shaw converted two tries and added a penalty.

They are a point clear with 33 from eight games in their first season at that level.

Wortley lost 47-14 at Maltby.

Both Wortley and Dearne do not play this coming week.
