A CHARITY which had to close its shop doors to the public last month has new hope and they’ll open their new hub at the weekend.

Peter Robertshaw-Corbett set up the foundation H.O.P.E (Helping Others Positively Engage) In Community was founded as a community group in 2017.

It became a charity in 2020, a month before lockdown, and subsequently opened its community hub in the town centre in 2021.

However, Peter was told that they will no longer be able to use the site on Peel Square as a new tenant has been found.

The shop closed its doors late this month but Peter has confirmed the new shop will reopen on Market Street on Saturday.

He told the Chronicle: “We were disappointed when we had to close the old shop and say bye to all our regular customers.

“But we are glad we can continue to support the community.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming people into our new shop.”

Yesterday marked one year since the charity received The King’s Award for Voluntary service and next Saturday will also see the return of Lady Rowena Montagu Stuart Wortley, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire.

She will open the shop and join other special guests including the Mayor of Barnsley, Coun John Clarke.

The grand open will take place at 10am at 48 Market Street.
