BARNSLEY AC’s Phil Montgomery took the win at the new Beast of Bamford Fell race.

The nine-mile mixed terrain course, with 660m of ascent, takes in the Hope Valley and goes up Bamford Edge and across to Win Hill before heading back down to the Recreation Ground at Thornhill. Phil’s time was 1-04-45.

Penistone Footpath Runner Tom Fryers finished second at the Padfield Plum Fair Fell Race near Glossop.

The 4.5-mile route is mainly on farm tracks and stoney footpaths.

Conditions were relatively good with the early rain making the course slippery under foot on the descent.

Tom led at the halfway stage but eventually conceded first place.

He still finished inside 30 minutes.

First woman back for Penistone was Helen Wright who also picked up a category win in the women’s over40 age group. Other category winners were Jo Boreham (over50 women) and Barbara Haigh (over75 women).

The women also packed well to pick up first prize in the team event.

At the Tadcaster ten-mile road race, Linda Walton set a new Kingstone Runners over55 women’s record for the distance. She finished 402nd in a time of 74-31. First back for Penistone was Michael Nicholson in 1-18-17.

Bill Phillips’ time of 1-26-07 was a new club record in the men’s over75 age category.

Mo Running is the largest running event series to support Movember and men’s health. The Leeds event was held at Roundhay Park on Sunday.

Barnsley AC’s Tayla Brons finished as first woman and ninth overall in the 10k race with a time of 45-22.

Run Alton Towers held a weekend of races around the theme park.

On Saturday, Barnsley AC’s Kris Brown ran the 10k in a time of 48-14. Adam Lavelle ran Sunday’s 5k with his girlfriend Sophie Bundell – who was doing her first proper race – in a time of 30-12.

Penistone’s Harriet Drouin took on the unique challenge of the Escape from Meriden event. Competitors are given 24 hours to run as far as they can from Meriden which is known as the traditional centre of England.

Harriet covered 43.8 miles (37 miles as the crow flies) in 14 hours.

Penistone’s Mark Crossley completed the 20-mile Wharfedale Skyline in 4-49-12. He finished 24th.

Penistone’s Dave Lovatt took on the Hathersage Night Race, finishing in a time of 46-29. The race is run in the dark and requires competitors to complete the route using head torches.

Dave finished 49th.

At the Derby ten-mile road race, Penistone’s Shaun Swallow finished in a time of 1-14-22 for 394th place.

Barnsley AC’s Gavin Walker set a new PB of 58-44.
