A TEEN model from Barnsley has been named the British Dyslexia Association’s ‘Outstanding Young Person of the Year’ at a recent awards show.
Alexandria Crystal, 16, from Worsbrough Village, made history last year after being named as the youngest ever contestant to qualify for the Miss England event when she was just 15 years old.
As part of the competition, Alex began to raise awareness about dyslexia - a condition she suffers with.
She managed to secure interviews with some of the country’s biggest names, including former MP and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here star Matt Hancock.
The teenager was named the Outstanding Young Person of the Year at a ceremony held at the Richmond Hill Hotel in London last week.
Her mum, Vicky, told the Chronicle: “The event was MCd by Grant Harrold - The Royal Butler - and Lizzie Acker, a former bake-off contestant.
“Among the guest were Theo Paphitis, the Dragons’ Den entrepreneur, and Penny Lancaster.
“Alexandria’s dyslexia campaigning saw her secure interviews with Matt Hancock whilst a serving MP and even a spy from GCHQ code named ‘Charlotte’.
“It’s been quite a year as in addition to the above Alex has walked in events at both London and Paris fashion weeks, won an award at Top Model London and was a North America and Europe Regional finalist in the World Monologue Games.
“This was also her GCSE exam year.
“It’s fair to say she’s been a busy teen.”
