PENISTONE and Stocksbridge candidate Miriam Cates has responded to claims she is trying to hide that she is a member of the Conservative Party.

In a letter to constituents, there was no mention of the Conservative Party - nor was there any Tory branding.

This led one resident to contact the Chronicle, stating that the letter read as though she was an independent candidate.

However, Miriam disputed these claims, adding: “I’m proud to be standing as a Conservative candidate in this general election, as I did when I was elected in 2019.

“The Conservative Party logo and brand appear on my website, Facebook page and the other literature that is being produced as part of my campaign.

“This letter focuses on my record as the MP for the Penistone and Stocksbridge constituency over the last four-and-a-half years, and is designed to demonstrate that there is a clear choice for local people at this election.”
