A HISTORIAN who acquired a former Barnsley Pal’s extensive collection of postcards from his travels during the First World War has donated them for the town to see.
Private Tom Bradbury, of D Company of the 13th Battalion of the York and, Lancaster Regiment, acquired more than 200 postcards.
Born in 1881 and dying in 1956 at the age of 75, he wrote on some but sent them all home to his family at 6 South Street, Barnsley, to keep for him.
Historian Jane Ainsworth handed them over to Barnsley Archives and Local Studies - based in the town hall - on Wednesday so anyone can view them.
She told the Chronicle: “I organised the postcards into chronological order so there are camps in England, scenes in Egypt and many places in France and Belgium.
“The Barnsley Pals are a key part of the town’s history so I was thrilled I could acquire them and donate them to the team at the town hall.”
