A LOCAL candlemaker is helping boost Barnsley Hospice’s coffers with his new creation.

Mark Jordan, of Aroma Holiday Candles based at Pot House Hamlet in Silkstone, signed up to a collaborative project with the hospice.

Profits from the candles will go towards the hospice’s palliative care and end-of-life services.

Sarah MacGillivray, director of governance and quality and deputy CEO at Barnsley Hospice, said: “We are thrilled to launch our new candles which will help us raise much-needed funds to deliver our specialist services.

“There couldn’t be a better time for us to unveil these wonderful new gifts as we continue our ‘Light Up a Life’ campaign, where we celebrate and remember loved ones.

“We want to thank Mark for his support in creating these beautiful candles, which also make for a brilliant Christmas gift, too.”

Mark added: “I’m so proud to collaborate with Barnsley Hospice and it’s a real honour to support such a brilliant charity.

“The hospice is such beautiful place and the enthusiasm for what they do shines through. You tend to think these places are sad but it’s a lovely place and I found it uplifting.

“I hope that the candles, which are in keeping with hospice’s colours, are enjoyed by those who purchase them, knowing that they are supporting such a fantastic cause. It’s great to see how popular they’ve been already and I’m hopeful of this being the start of a brilliant and long-standing relationship to support the hospice, which is vital for the Barnsley community.”

The candles match the hospice’s colour of orange.

They are handmade soy wax and are scented with orange, lemon, thyme, blackberry and wine.

They are available from the hospice’s reception and retail hub in Dodworth.
