A VERY special person has been honoured and recognised for their lifetime achievements every year since the Proud of Barnsley awards were launched back in 2012.

It’s always the final award of the evening at the annual awards’ ceremony which recognises all that is great about our town and congratulates those who have gone above and beyond in many different ways.

Following the death of Barnsley’s very own Michael Parkinson in 2023, the Lifetime Achievement award was renamed the Sir Michael Parkinson Special Recognition Award in honour of the legendary broadcaster.

We take a look at the amazing recipients of this coveted award and recognise once again their truly inspirational contribution to Barnsley.
