BARNSLEY fans are being urged to take part in a minute’s applause tomorrow in memory of Reds fan Leon Yould who died in Worsbrough just days before Christmas.

At 11.41am on Sunday December 22, officers were called to West Street to reports of a collision involving a car and two pedestrians.

A blue Volkswagen Polo was involved in a collision with a wall and a 56-year-old man and a one-year-old boy.

The man - named as Leon Yould - died at the scene and the boy, his grandson, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

A minute’s applause has been planned in the 56th minute of Barnsley FC’s League One fixture against Wrexham at Leon’s beloved Oakwell on New Year’s Day.

A statement online said: “Leon has been a Reds fan for over 40 years.

“He was red through and through, following Barnsley up and down the country with his family and friends.

“Leon’s family would like all fans in attendance at the game to join them in a minute’s applause in celebration of Leon’s life on 56 minutes.”
