BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis and Mayor Mick Stowe joined Batman and Robin on a charity walk to raise funds for Barnsley Hospital’s chemotherapy ward at the weekend.
Mark Spendlove, from Mapplewell, decided to start the fund-raising mission after losing close family members to cancer.
His dad died of bowel cancer and his step-dad lung cancer.
They’ve managed to raise a total of £2,000 for the ward - but it’s expected to increase in further in the coming days once the final figure is totted up.
The group - which included locals dressed as Mario and Luigi, Batman and Robin and other fancy dress characters - were joined by Dan and Mick at the start line at Barnsley Town Hall.
They then travelled to Monk Bretton and Barugh Green before reaching Barnsley Hospital at around 4pm.
Jane Penvose, who took part in the walk, told the Chronicle: “The walk was a fabulous success and a brilliant day out.
“The Mayor of Barnsley was lovely with everyone and he walked the first leg to Monk Bretton.
“We’ve raised more than £2,000 so far but there’s still a fair bit to add to that.”
