BARNSLEY Premier Leisure have scrapped a booking process which only allowed 15 swimmers at a time as it was ‘not fit for purpose’.

Swimmers at Dearneside Leisure Centre, in Goldthorpe, had to book a place to swim in the pool due to staff shortages.

Only 15 people were allowed in the 25-metre pool at any time, which sparked concern from its users who complained about the new rules.

It’s prompted BPL to scrap the scheme.

A spokesperson for BPL told the Chronicle: “At BPL, our priority is ensuring the safety and continuity of our services for all our customers.

“Due to unexpected staff shortages, we temporarily reduced the number of bathers in our swim sessions at Dearneside Leisure Centre to enable us to maintain our aquatics programme.

“To assist with this, we introduced a booking system.

“We acknowledge that the booking process did not meet expectations and was not fit for purpose.

“Based on customer feedback and an operational review, we have now removed the system to improve accessibility and ease of use for our swimmers.

“We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding while we worked through these challenges.

“BPL remains committed to delivering the best possible experience at our facilities.”
