AN emotive art piece made in honour of a local’s friend who recently passed away will be displayed in Weston Park Museum next week.

Deborah Lomax from Shafton created the piece after her friend, the American author Nick Huffman, passed away.

For the past six years she’s been in a long distance relationship with her boyfriend Jason Ward, who lived in California, and the two had always planned for Nick to someday officiate their wedding.

His death shattered their dreams and plunged them into emotional turmoil, which is when the 45-year-old beautician decided she’d use her artistic skills to try and process the loss.

“It started just as an eye that I was doodling,” she told the Chronicle.

“And then it all developed out of that - it became like Nick was watching over us.

“I had always imagined that me and Jason would get married somewhere beautiful and Nick would be the one to marry us.”

Now this emotional piece is up for all to see at Weston Park Museum as part of the University of Sheffield’s discovery display.

At the unveiling last Thursday, Deborah also read a poem that brought members of the crowd to tears.

“It was so good,” she added.

“I’m grateful to Sheffield university for letting us display our items and share our stories.”
