It was a good weekend for Barnsley clubs in the NCEL Division One promotion chase.
Wombwell won 2-0 at Selby Town on Saturday, with Jordan Kershaw and Kane Reece netting after Charlie Preston saved a penalty. That meant they had won six straight games, with clean sheets in the last four.
Town are second, eight points behind leaders Horbury Town who have played three extra games.
Worsbrough Bridge won 4-0 at Nostell MW – a fifth straight win.
Keelan Grist scored a hat-trick and Connor Glavin also netted for Bridge who remain in the lowest play-off place.
Dearne and District are a point behind them in sixth after winning 7-1 at home to Glasshoughton Welfare. The score was 1-1 at half-time but Dearne recorded a third straight win. Jamie Austin netted four with Harry Anderson-Richardson adding two and Curtis Wilkinson one.
Athersley Rec lost 3-2 at home to promotion contenders Ilkley Town. Carter Tingle put the hosts in front then, after the visitors went 2-1 up, Nathan Perks levelled only for Ilkley to net again. Charlie Auty saw a late equaliser ruled out then was sent off in the aftermath.
