Children at a Wombwell primary school have been chosen to be part of the county basketball squad.
Year six pupils Luca Farmer, Chris Waller and Ellie Barton Kidd have been chosen for the under 11s' South Yorkshire basketball squad and had their first training session on Wednesday.
High View sports co-ordinator Gordon Calvert said he was very proud pupils from the school had made the team. He said: "They've done really well and we're well pleased here at the school.
"I have to give credit to Darfield's Bert Beaumont, however, because he's worked so hard to keep the sport going and he's put so much into it.
"Basketball sessions lost their funding as part of the council cuts but we encourage a lot of our children to compete at Netherwood School. I'm a big believer in the sport, it's a great game, but it's never been pushed that much in this country."
Bert, the last chairman of governors at Darfield Foulstone school, said the recruitment was part of a drive to promote under-11s competition at the regional and national level.
He said: "It's the first time there's been an under-11s regional event, we're looking at getting a squad to play against West Yorkshire and other areas, leading up to a Yorkshire team which will play against other regions across the country."
