DAVIS Keillor-Dunn knows he has missed some crucial chances recently but was delighted to net what proved to be Barnsley’s winner at Exeter City on Saturday.
The forward, who is playing up front having spent most of his career in attacking midfield, netted his sixth Reds goal of the season which drew him level with Adam Phillips as top-scorer.
Keillor-Dunn had missed a one-on-one chance in the first half, with Barnsley previously struggling to finish big chances, but he turned in a cross from Stephen Humphrys.
He told the Chronicle: “I was disappointed because I should have scored in the first half.
“I knew we had quality in the side so, if I got between the sticks, another chance would come.
“I have got to adapt (to playing up front). I am a forward player.
“Wherever I am asked to play I will play there and work my socks off. I need to keep getting in the right positions.”
He added: “The story in the past couple of games has been that I should have taken chances.
“Luckily Humphs has put a great ball in and I got there.”
The other scorer was Kelechi Nwakali who, along with Conor McCarthy, made a first start of the season due to injuries and suspensions.
Keillor-Dunn said: “They were really, really good. The gaffer does so much to keep the squad together.
“It just shows you when we have performances like that, whoever is asked to will come in and play really well.”
Keillor-Dunn is now hoping to build on the Exeter win with another victory against Leyton Orient at Oakwell, which would be a third league success there in 11 attempts this season.
“It’s a big chance or us. If we get wins from the two games going into Christmas it will be great for us and we will be doing everything we can to put the right plan in place for that.”
