A LOCAL councillor is calling on community groups and businesses to get behind the relaunch of the Birdwell Summer Gala in its 75th anniversary year.
The gala was last held a decade ago in 2015.
Coun Sherry Holling, who represents the Rockingham ward, says the event was always seen as a community project where everyone chipped in to help.
She is now calling for volunteers to attend an initial planning meeting at Birdwell Community Centre on Monday February 3 at 7pm.
The meeting will be seeking volunteers for a planning group, physical/practical support on the day and event sponsorship.
Coun Holling told the Chronicle: “I have many happy memories of previous Birdwell Summer Galas.
“In previous years my mum used to volunteer as an organiser and I hope others will step up to help us this year.
“It offers an opportunity for our community to come together as one and to enjoy all that’s good about our area.
