BARNSLEY College students visited a local primary school recently as part of an ongoing scheme to raise youngsters’ aspirations.
Students from catering and hospitality, and hair and beauty, visited Tankersley Primary School.
As part of the initiative, the school pupils have been working hard to collect food and toiletries to donate to a homeless charity.
Kayleigh Bell, a college staff member and governor at both Barnsley College and the school, said: “I am committed to creating an initiative that fosters collaboration between these two institutions, while also raising aspirations and contributing to our local community.
“The goal is to inspire students and provide them with the opportunity to engage in a meaningful community project that benefits those in need.”
Adding a special touch to the visit, two current Barnsley College students and proud alumni of Tankersley Primary School went along to receive the donations, whilst taking a walk down memory lane.
They collected the goods and took the opportunity to speak with the children, sharing their experiences and inspiring the younger generation.
Student Phoebe Judge-Smith, added: “Being hungry shouldn’t be something anyone has to experience.
“It has been a pleasure to not only encourage others to do more but also contribute myself.
“My family has always supported the homeless, and it felt good to do something extra.
“No one should be hungry.”
Scarlett Pitwell added: “It was amazing to return to Tankersley Primary School, where I went as a child, and to see the enthusiasm of the young students eager to help.
“It was not only a great opportunity to reconnect with my old school, but it also brought me closer to the community.”
The donations were dropped off at St Mary’s Church on Saturday as part of a scheme to tackle homelessness in the town.
