TWO Barnsley chippies are celebrating this week after being named as one of the top 50 across the entirety of the UK.
The Fry Awards take place every year and judge fish and chip shops across the United Kingdom, eventually naming their top 50 best.
It’s one of the biggest accolades a chippy can receive - and Shaws in Dodworth and Shafton’s Two Gate Fisheries were lucky enough to make the list.
It’s not the first time Shaws have received the award, much to the delight of owner Mick Shaw.
He said: “We’ve been named in the top 50 a few times.
“But it’s always good to get some recogntion for what we do.
“To be named in the top 50 out of about 11,000 shops is great.
“It’s also a good thing for Barnsley to get two in the top 50.”
Two Gates owner Craig Butcher told the Chronicle: “It’s an amazing achievement.
“I’m exceptionally proud of my team in meeting The Fry Magazine’s exceptionally high standards on the first time of asking.
“I only started the business around seven years ago, I had never worked within the industry before and now we are rubbing shoulders with the best industry professionals in the country.
“There is an extraordinary amount of hard work that goes into producing the finest quality fish and chips, however it’s our national dish and we feel that it deserves it.”
