YOUNG SAM GETS TV WRESTLER ON THE ROPES

WRESTLING fans cheered and applauded as the promoter announced: “Now live from the USA, The Undertaker...”

The man-in-black leapt into the ring ready for the contest of the century - but little Sam Round looked puzzled.

The indignant three-year-old turned to his auntie in the Metrodome audience and said: “That’s not The Undertaker - he’s too small.”

What was advertised as American TV Wrestling turned out to be something else.

Sam - at the age of three and an expert on the sport - had waited for three weeks to see his heroes but the family left the Metrodome feeling upset.

His aunt, Andrea Jones, of Wombwell, said: “Sam knows all the names of the wrestlers - and he’s only three.

“They said over the microphone that these people were flown in specially from America.

“It was disgusting.

“The Undertaker is 6ft 7in and 17 stone - the guy who was meant to be him was about 5ft 8in.”

DAVID PUTS ON IS BIKE AND LOOKS TO LONDON

SUPER-FIT David Elrington will run the 26 miles of the London Marathon with a push bike strapped to his back.

But before he even crosses the starting line, he will already have ridden almost 200 miles on his trust bike - from Barnsley to London.

And just an hour after crossing the finishing line, he faces another bike trek back home.

He hopes his amazing dash to London and back will raise up to £1,000 fro Barnsley District General Hospital’s chemotherapy unit appeal.

“When I tell people what I’m doing, they say I must be mad,” he said.

“Last year I cycled down to London, ran the marathon, and then cycled back home.

“This time I wanted to try something a bit more challenging.

“Running 26 miles with a bike weighing 30lbs strapped to your back is never going to be easy - but I’m working on the technique to make it as comfortable as possible.”

JOHN PRESCOTT STEAMS IN

‘NEXT stop, Brussels’ was the announcement made by the Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott from the footplate of the Elsecar steam train.

He was at the heritage centre on Tuesday for the official launch of Linda McAvan’s European election campaign.

The 35-year-old Barnsley Council worker was selected as Labour’s South Yorkshire candidate following Norman West’s announcement that he was retiring on the grounds of ill health.

Mr Prescott enjoyed a ride on the train and toured the site with council and party officials.

He said he wanted to see the development of stronger transport links with the rest of Europe.
