A YOUNG girl from Kendray who has type one diabetes has written her own ‘mini book’ to help children who find themselves in a similar position.
Nine-year-old Roma-Larose Sutton-Kirkby, who attends Hunningley Primary Academy, was diagnosed in May and is currently on injection therapy for her diabetes.
Following on from her own experiences, Roma wanted to write a booklet for children in a similar situation to her.
She passed on her words and drawings to Rachel Jones, the team lead paediatric diabetes dietician - as Roma wanted more people to know about the disorder.
The story ‘The Little Girl Who Got Type One Diabetes’ was picked up by Barnsley Hospital Charity who supported the printing of the book written by Roma to help other children with diabetes.
They recognised its potential to provide comfort, guidance, and a sense of community to young readers facing similar challenges.
Roma said: “I wrote the story because I wanted to comfort other people. It helps tell them they can do anything, even though they have diabetes.”
Barnsley Hospital is now sharing the book with children who may benefit from it.
