WORK to alleviate flooding woes in one of the worst-affected areas across Barnsley is moving quickly, much to the delight of local councillors.

Bulling Dike in Low Valley, Darfield, is currently the subject of maintenance work by Danvm Drainage Commissioners.

Watercourse maintenance work, which is taking place at the site, is being done to reduce the risk of flooding in the area.

Low Valley has long been a problem area for flooding, with residents calling for more to be done to ease their woes.

And Darfield Couns Kevin Osborne and Trevor Smith visited the site last Wednesday alongside members of the Low Valley Flood Group to examine the progress.

Couns Osborne and Smith said: “We are thrilled to see this progress - it will significantly reduce the risk of flooding and improve the safety and well-being of our community.

“Low Valley Flood Group engage with us frequently, asking when the maintenance work will be done.

“This work answers those questions.

“As Barnsley Council’s representative on the Danvm Drainage Board Coun Osborne has been working hard to ensure Bulling Dike and Low Valley remain high on the agenda for the drainage board and this maintenance work runs in parallel with the Connected by Water initiative which brings together local authorities, Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency to deliver not only flood risk management schemes on the ground, but also to plan catchment-wide measures for the future to help meet the challenges of climate change.”
