RUNNERS from Barnsley clubs made the short trip to Blackburn Nature Reserve to take part in the five-mile Rotherham Canal Race.
Barnsley Harrier Fiona Davies was the first woman finisher.
Chris McNicholas was the first Barnsley AC runner back in a time of 34-50. Faye Lund (43-38), Laura Mills (50-13) and Caron Holburt (55-28) completed the quartet.
First back for Penistone Footpath Runners was Ian Neville in 12th place overall with a time of 33-43. First woman back for Penistone was Lois Lopez in a time of 39-28. Kelvin Bowskill picked up first place in the men’s over70 age category with 41-54 and, in the process, secured the KMR running series title despite there being two races remaining.
Penistone’s Nick Whittingham completed the annual Guy Fawkes ten-mile race in Ripley, finishing in 1-45-11.
Three Penistone runners took on the challenge of the Chalkland Way Ultra which is a 40-mile circular ultra-marathon set in the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds, starting and ending in Pocklington. Chloe Worth, Rhianna Banford and Will Hoyland ran together to complete the 40 miles in less than nine hours which gave them 20th place overall in the team category.
On the fells, Penistone’s father and son Paul and Tom Fryers competed in the Shepherd’s Skyline 10k based out of Todmorden. Tom came 12th in 49-25 and Paul was 106th in 68-19.
Barnsley AC’s Keith Littlewood competed at the Chesterfield’s Queens Park in the No Walk in the Park race.
He came tenth and first over55 man in a course PB of 18-45, which was 27 seconds quicker than his time in October.
