Barnsley conceded two late goals to cap a disappointing performance in a 2-0 loss at Huddersfield Town in a Yorkshire derby on Saturday lunchtime.
The hosts scored on 83 and 96 minutes, having been the better side for most of the game and missing several other chances.
The Reds did not have a shot on target after the 13th minute and were very poor on the ball again.
They are now eighth with 15 points from the first ten games but may sink lower after the 3pm games.
Darrell Clarke made two changes from the 2-2 home draw with Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday. Donovan Pines and Kyran Lofthouse dropped to the bench for Stephen Humphrys and Georgie Gent, who played for the first time since August.
Barnsley started slowly but grew into the game and Stephen Humphrys had the first shot on 13 minutes when Humphrys’ powerful 35-yard effort was turned behind by the goalkeeper.
Huddersfield had a spell of dominance from midway through the first half as, after Josh Earl and Mael de Gevigney blocked goal-bound shots during a scramble, Gabriel Slonina impressively saved from a Callum Marshall header then a David Kasumu attempted lob after he punched away a corner. Slonina also had to deny Bojan Radulovic from close range after the Reds were opened up down the left.
Marshall then volleyed over from a Brodie Spencer cross just before the break, which Huddersfield went into having been comfortably the better side overall.
Radulovic almost opened the scoring early in the second half when Slonina and Roberts appeared to leave the ball for each other following a Marshall header from a long pass and the striker dinked a close-range effort over the goalkeeper and onto the roof of the net.
Humphrys shot wide from the edge of the box after good work on the left by Keillor-Dunn and Gent.
Gent, Humphrys and Barry Cotter were then replaced by Fabio Jalo, Josh Benson and Corey O’Keeffe on the hour-mark.
Cosgrove came close on 76 minutes when a long ball dropped to him in the box but his 15-yard volley went wide of the top left corner.
The hosts took the lead when, after a good one two down the right wing, former Barnsley man Herbie Kane played a clever square pass to Ben Wiles who had time to pick his spot from the edge of the box and blast a fine shot past Slonina.
The Reds never looked like levelling and a second goal arrived in the final seconds when Mael de Gevigney headed out a long throw to Kasumu who impressively found the bottom left corner from distance.
