SAM COSGROVE is not back in full training while Barry Cotter is fit but not being selected – according to Darrell Clarke’s latest injury update.

Striker Cosgrove has missed the last four matches with a back injury. Clarke says he is doing ‘light jogging work.’

Right wing-back Cotter has not been involved in the last two games. After a poor performance in the EFL Trophy against Doncaster, he was left out of the squad for the FA Cup game at Port Vale then came off early while playing for the under 21s last week.

Clarke told the Chronicle: “Barry came off in the under 21s game but he trained in the next training session.

“So Barry’s not been injured, as such. It was a precaution.”

Captain Luca Connell will miss the game at Cambridge on Saturday after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season in the last match. His place could be taken by Matty Craig.

Clarke said: “We want our captain in our team. He’s been playing really well.

“It’s a squad game and it’s an opportunity for someone else.”

On Craig, Clarke said: “He’s a model pro and a good kid who is going to have a really good future in the game. I can’t speak highly enough of him.

“He’s fighting and training hard to get in the team as are all the midfielders.

“He’s put in some good performances but some were not as good as he’d like. That’s what you get with younger players coming into a new level.”

Goalkeeper Gaga Slonina is set to miss four to six weeks with a finger injury.
