A MEMORIAL garden commemorating the lives of staff at Hoyland Ambulance Station was unveiled on Friday.

Pupils from St Helen’s Catholic Primary School joined staff members at the station for a tree-planting day, starting at 10am.

The memorial garden will commemorate the lives of those who have worked at the station - whilst also giving current staff a place to reflect and relax during the day.

Neil Gooder, the station manager, told the Chronicle: “We’ve invited St Helen’s to come down as part of the tree-planting day.

“We’ve got some land at the back of the station which we’re wanting to use as a memorial garden.

“It’ll be there as a tribute to those colleagues we have recently lost and to those who we have lost in the past.

“We’ll be doing some fundraising events in the coming months to help raise some money for it.

“It’ll be a green space where colleagues can go to when they’ve been on a particularly hard job and just reflect.”
