A SUPERMARKET employee has become a beloved member of the Barnsley Hospital Charity team as she goes above and beyond to help them with whatever she can.

Jean White works as a community champion for Morrisons on the outskirts of the town centre, working with local charities and community groups to help give back to the borough.

The 61-year-old has built a special relationship with the staff at Barnsley Hospital, as she consistently goes above and beyond to help support the work they do, with an unwavering commitment to helping those in need - which has made a significant impact on countless people’s lives.

She told the Chronicle: “We do all sorts with them.

“We donate lots of stuff for them - usually we get called out when someone wants to get married who’s passing away.

“So we’ll arrange bouquets and cakes and everything that we can.

“If they ring and ask if we can do something then nine out of ten times we do.”

Yet her work isn’t limited to just the hospital, as she works with groups ‘all over town’.

“We do a lot with Stairfoot Foodbank, the Exodus Project and Barnsley Foodbank,” she added.

“We’ll help sort out raffle prizes, donations, quite a lot of different stuff.

“I think we always just try to help with whatever we can.”

As she refuses to slow down, and continues to do everything she can to help those less fortunate, Jean has been put forward for this year’s Proud of Barnsley.

“I’m over the moon,” she said.

“It’s not that I look for rewards, I think if you’re that sort of person you just do it.”

Jane Mills, charity development manager at the hospital, said: “We at Barnsley Hospital Charity are especially grateful for Jean’s incredible contributions.

“She has donated both funds and gifts in kind for our patients, making their hospital experience a little brighter and more comfortable.

“Jean’s thoughtfulness and care have touched the hearts of our patients, staff, and volunteers.

“Thank you Jean, you are a superstar.”
