BARNSLEY College has become one of only four institutions across the country to receive a prestigious sporting plaque.

The college received the three-star plaque from the Association of Colleges (AoC), acknowledging the establishment’s dedication to fostering excellence in sports, notably through its innovative partnerships with other local educational institutions and grassroots clubs.

It is one of only four institutions nation-wide to earn the top-tier certification.

Luke Forgione, a football coach and performance and athlete development coach at the college, said: “We are pleased to be recognised as one of the leading colleges in the country for our football provision.

“The accreditation celebrates the hard work that goes off behind the scenes to provide excellent opportunities for our students.

“Everyone associated should be really proud to be recognised as one of a small cohort of colleges in the country leading in the way in FE football.”
