BARNSLEY Hospital has been crowned the best in the country for its team work and work-life balance in the most recent NHS staff survey.
The survey - which covers acute and acute and community trusts - involved staff answering a series of 118 questions about their experience of work, along with questions relating to employee engagement and morale.
The hospital was named the best in the country for teamwork, compassionate leadership, and supporting work-life balance.
They also scored above average in every theme of the NHS People Promise - the pledge NHS colleagues make to work together to improve the experience of working in the NHS for everyone.
Dr Richard Jenkins, chief executive officer at Barnsley Hospital, noted that two results in particular stood out.
These were that the trust scored highest in the country for ‘people being enthusiastic about going to work,’ and for the fourth year running, the trust being best in the country for line management.
He added: “What really matters is not just what the scores are, but how we will use them to take action to deliver further improvements to staff.
“The results show that Barnsley Hospital remains a great place to work, with strong staff engagement and advocacy.
“While we are performing well in many areas, we are committed to continuous improvement - ensuring every colleague feels heard, valued, and supported.
“Our focus on local action planning, further communication enhancements, and diversity and inclusion initiatives should help us create an even better workplace.
“Staff feedback is vital in shaping our future, and we encourage everyone to continue sharing their voices through future surveys and forums.”
A total of 59 per cent of the hospital’s staff completed the survey - ten per cent higher than the national average.
The results of the survey have been shared with bosses and line managers so they can create ‘action plans’ to improve the trust even further.
Steve Ned, Barnsley Hospital’s director of people, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to all our staff who took the time to complete this year’s NHS staff survey.
“The response shows the highest number of staff ever have shared their views, giving us valuable insight into what it’s like to work at Barnsley Hospital.
“It’s fantastic to see that 69 per cent of our staff would recommend the organisation as a place to work and receive care - an increase on previous years and a testament to our ongoing efforts to make this the best place to work.
“While we have much to celebrate, including improvements in staff well-being and workplace culture, we recognise there are areas to focus on, such as access to nutritious food and managing workload pressures.
“These results help us drive meaningful change, ensuring we continue to support our staff and provide the best possible care for our patients.”
