MONK Bretton and Penistone face each other on Saturday in a Barnsley derby which could be crucial in the South Yorkshire League Division Two promotion chase.

Penistone are second, with the Monks only a place below them only on run-rate, and the top three due to go up.

Penistone – who also play in the Mick Savage Trophy semi-final on Sunday – fell 13 runs short chasing 163 at home to leaders Aston Hall.

Matt Scholey took four wickets and Chris Walmsley three then Tom Reid hit 87 but no one else scored more than ten.

Monk Bretton won by 53 runs at home to Oughtibridge 2nd XI.

Danny Taylor (56) top-scored in the Monks’ 266 then Steven Honeyman and Ashley Clayton took four wickets each.

Darfield fell off top spot in Division One and were replaced by Oughtibridge who beat them in a high-scoring clash.

Darfield posted 268 thanks to Joe Stickland’s 70 and 54 from Lewis Sansome. But the hosts won with seven wickets and 6.5 overs left.

Second-placed Darfield are now six points off top and level with third-placed Conisbrough. Two are due to go up.

Worsbrough Bridge won a Barnsley derby in Division Three off the final ball after being given five penalty runs.

Bridge chased 193 at Cawthorne 2nd XI and won by two wickets as they hit the last ball for four.

They had been gifted five extra runs for their opponents’ slow over-rate.

Nicholas Lowe scored 104 in Cawthorne’s 193 with Lewis Wilkinson and James Kennedy taking three wickets each.

Mark Wilkinson top-scored with 57 not out and Cawthorne’s Noah Bramall took four wickets.

Higham lost by a wicket to Barnsley Woolley Miners 3rd XI.

Freddie Egginton top-scored with 54 as Barnsley chased 169.

Gareth Kilburn took five wickets for Higham.

Kexborough fell 12 runs short chasing 182 at home to Millhouses Works.

Neil Hinchliffe took four wickets.

Silkstone United were skittled for 97 chasing 190 at Frecheville in Division Four.

Christopher Barraclough took three wickets.

Wombwell Main fell 60 runs short chasing 234 at Shiregreen 2nd XI. Adam Carnall took four wickets then top-scored with 53 batting at number nine.

Joe White made 110 as Green Moor won by 150 runs at Upper Haugh 3rd XI in Division Seven.

White hit 11 fours and three sixes in Green Moor’s 241 then the hosts were all out for 91 with Harry Airstone taking five wickets. Green Moor are 11 points clear in first place.

Houghton Main 2nd XI won by a wicket chasing 130 at Eden Grove Parklands.

Barnsley Woolley Miners 4th XI won at Norton Oakes 2nd XI.

Antony Fieldhouse scored 54 then Steven Dixon hit 56 not out off 37 balls with seven fours and two sixes.

Hayden Parker-Wake then took four for 23 off ten overs as the hosts made 155 chasing 212.

Dearne chased 161 for a two-wicket win at Scholes and Harley 2nd XI in Division Nine.

Robert Houghton took three wickets then number ten Scott Hardman hit 34 not out off nine balls with five fours and two sixes.

Silkstone United 2nd XI won by two runs at home to Eden Grove Parklands 2nd XI. They posted 128 then dismissed their visitors for 126.

Worsbrough Bridge 2nd XI bowled Mexborough 2nd XI out for 13 defending 301 in Division Eight.

Ben Parkinson made 58 and Darren Newton hit 64 off 29 balls.

Elsecar 2nd XI chased 165 for a six-wicket win over Monk Bretton 2nd XI. Andy Taylor made a run-a-ball 61 not out for the Monks then Elsecar’s Jack Pearson scored 67.

Rockingham 3rd XI restricted Frecheville 2nd XI to 111 in a six-wicket win.
