BARNSLEY Metropolitan Band have been crowned the Yorkshire champions in the British Brass Band Championships.
The band impressed the judges with their performance of the test piece, Corineus by Christopher Bond.
They received awards for the Best Percussion Section and the Roye Roe Memorial Trophy for the winning conductor, Alex Francis.
Alex has been conducting the band since 2007.
He has overseen their remarkable progress from fourth section to the top of the third section.
Alex said: “We’re delighted with the result. It marks a special moment in the bands history and the progress we’ve made in recent years.
“We enjoyed listening to other competing bands, everyone involved performed to a really high standard.
“Congratulations to everyone for a great day of music making.
“I’d like to thank the band’s players, our partners, supporters and committee for their contribution to the band’s success.”
Following the win, Barnsley Metropolitan Band has been invited to represent Yorkshire at the National Finals in September.
At the finals, they will showcase their talent, competing with the best bands from across the country.
